1. What is ECO-Asia Clean Development and Climate Program?

USAID launched the ECO-Asia Clean Development and Climate Program (ECO-Asia CDCP) in 2006 to help identify and promote clean energy solutions for Asia that address climate change and energy security.

In its first two years, the ECO-Asia CDCP has initiated partnerships and programs that are expected to result in reductions of 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, which is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions from 3.1 million developing Asian households.

In addition, the program has published three signature studies:

    •  From Ideas to Action, which provided a broad overview of clean energy solutions for Asia that address climate change;
    • Designing A Cleaner Future for Coal,which analyzed the barriers and opportunities to the adoption of cleaner coal technologies and practices;
    • Confidence in Quality, which outlined strategies to improve the quality and availability of energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps.

The Program’s regional office is located in Bangkok, Thailand and project offices are situated in China and India. As well, there are Country Coordinators situated in the four largest ASEAN countries: Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
